I made an offer on a TVR Chimaera
This one in fact. Has 63,900 miles on the clock and a clean MOT till next October. The asking price was a bit high and after getting a report back from a Chimaera FB group member I decided to make a relatively market biased offer. If it all goes through I will be selling the GTO shortly and buying this lovely 94 MY.
Overall in decent shape. Pint isn’t the best, but a low slung sports car means lots of rock ships and some scraps and bumps.
Would it be wrong if I named her Nina? XD

Wow...already Stateside or waiting on import?

This would be peak oppo. Everyone says Alfa are the ultimate Jalop car, but everyone truly knows its TVR.

Depends on mileage, mods, and a few other things. But mostly miles and years. So should be able to get around $20k for mine after doing a little I am going to sell my car TLC

Where is it in the UK? When you come over, I’ll buy you a pint of England’s warmest beer if you let me ride shotgun in it for a bit?

Such a gorgeous blue too! Good luck!

What a beauty! Can’t believe that was built in 1994. Blue looks pretty close to the GTO, little lighter.

Oh I know! Most of TVR’s designs don’t seem that old. Especially the Tuscan
I mean come on, this was made it 2002... Looks 2020 to me
2002 also
2005
None of these would be out of place if they were new today. Maybe not as “aggressive” as modern car design , but personally I like that more.

Now you just need to get an axe-murdering psychopathic supermodel for a girlfriend and your lifestyle will be complete.

Is this a reference to something?

Good luck!!! Would be awesome to see a TVR on here

Just the fact that TVRs are sexy, glamorous, exciting, high maintenance, and always thinking about how they’re going to kill you.
Though in hindsight it could also be a reference to the movie Swordfish. Travolta drives a TVR and Halle Berry is - well, Halle Berry.

There would be ImmoralMinority levels of posts. Are you sure?
![]() 11/23/2018 at 22:41 |

Ah yes the Speed Six cars are much more there. T he V8s are usually regarded as much more reliable vehicles.

Are TVRs unreliable?

Very nice, blue with the cream leather interior.
Metallic blues are always g ood.
I hope you get it.

Thank you! Me too. I definitely love the color combo a ton. She is a bit rough, but she’s hearty.

Much more reliable than a Speed Six isn’t exactly a high benchmark though.
And they still have trademark TVR “blink and you’re backwards” handling. Though my recollection is that at the time the Chimaera was regarded as an improvement on the Griffith in that respect.
Not that I’m carping - I’ll be as jelly as the rest of us if you get it.

Ummm, let’s see.
* D esigned by 3 guys in a shed and tested accordingly.
* Powered by an engine which never had the best rep to start with, and was then bored, stroked and cammed to within an inch of its life.
* Built using basically the same level of quality control and process sophistication as your average kit car
* Electrics assembled out of about a dozen different parts bins
* Chassis dubiously rustproofed then glassed over so you can’t see it.
* Body and interior held together by self tapping screws and Gorilla Glue.
... what do you think?
I exaggerate a little, but not much. They’re actually astonishingly good for what they are, but the only manufacturer they might worry on the reliability front is Lotus.

I’ve always had a soft spot for TVRs ever since I got behind a white 280i back in the mid-nineties. I had to know all about them. Over the years I have been tempted to buy one, but just never pulled the trigger. I even once had the chance to purchase what was allegedly the first Tasmin imported as a dealer display car. I think the original importer was here in Atlanta. I know they continued to be imported into Canada after the y left the US. I think they even got the 350i.
All that said, I don't cotton to the right hand drive in anything which puts most non-export British and JDM cars off my list.

I made an offer, so we will see.

But RHD is fun!
![]() 11/24/2018 at 11:05 |

Well tbh any car with a decent enough power range and no ABS or TC or SC will put you backwards if you aren’t a good driver or not respectful of the machine.

I mean don’t scare the guy away. There are plenty of pluses to the TVRs. Most of the cars the underpinnings (besides the chassis) are parts bin items which a lot of people thing is a bad idea, but that keeps costs down. You can get many wear items for the car not from TVR and save boatloads of money. I think they did it right because the parts of the car you touch and see everyday are bespoke and tbh those parts are less likely to fail on you (interior pieces, body, etc) while everything that makes the car go and stop and turn are proven parts and can be found anywhere. That way you don’t need to buy the brand’s parts and doing so doesn’t affect the overall value of the vehicle.
Like when you service your Ferrari, if you don’t use Ferrari brand parts then you car is somehow worth less. TVR, the owners just want a fun decent vehicle to drive and appreciate . So working well is working well no matter if the parts is from a Ford website etc.

I haven’t had the fortune of seeing a real TVR up close, but you’re just making it sound even more fun. Hope Dale actually lands this.
